Miss Bryony Tallow
Bryony Tallow is a young girl who lives in a castle. The castle is small, and situated on a balancing rock in Bender Bay, in the World Between Worlds. Nobody knows how long it’s been there. Bryony lives here with her cousin, Aubrey, and sometimes her Uncle, Dr Felix Montgomery, who is both the girls’ legal guardian and is constantly absent from the castle on research expeditions. The castle has no dimensions on the inside; its passageways are warped and seem to go on forever. There are rooms full of impossible things, like a room or floating books or one where you can walk up the walls.
The castle links to the outside worlds in the form of portal hallways. The ones used by Bryony’s tiny family are safe and familiar, but there are many more portals yet unexplored. Bryony’s cheeky and adventurous nature leads her to use the portals as her playground; despite her ignorance of portal mechanics, she continues to explore the various worlds and time periods on the other side (which is how she manages to get into so much trouble all the time). "Bryony reached out far to her left, leaning away from the ladder to squint at a dusty volume entitled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. “No, I think this one’s meant to be in the 21st Century fiction section… Besides Jasper, I’m up here for you anyway. You’re the one who asked me about those sea monsters, and to explain I have to find the right book.” |

Dislikes: deserts (not desserts), figs, leotards, liar birds (phobic), cherries, bananas, flying, authority/the law, poncy people, explaining himself, cities in the daytime, smoke, being bored, knights, uniforms |
Spindler is an adventurer, a magician, a worker of magic. He is something of a mystery to the few who know him; even more so to the many that know of him. When we first meet Spindler, he wears a tattered top hat and coat of deep purple, which has many little hidden pockets and which he is never seen without. He has messy, dark hair that reaches halfway to his shoulders, pale skin and sharp, dazzling white teeth. He rarely shows his entire face, preferring to keep it shadowed by the hood of his cloak or the tilt of his hat. It is common knowledge that the mysterious Spindler loves nothing more than to dazzle with magic tricks and illusions. He hooks them in with a beckoning finger and a knowing grin, then works his magic with a flourish and muddles them into delighted laughter.
Spindler slinks with a certain feline grace. He is always on the prowl, thirsty for mischief and adventure. He’s a fast runner and quick-witted, with a sly and persuasive manner and a knack for talking his way out of tight situations. Spindler loves blueberries and rainstorms. He travels, depending on his mood, between the wandering wilderness of the forest and the danger-filled nightlife of the cities, often joining up with groups on quests and has a suspected association with the rebellion. |
